Getting here from the KONA Airport. The Kona International Airport (KOA) is located 22.4 miles (36 km) from the Fairmont Orchid Hotel and travel time is ~ 30 minutes. If you are not renting a car, consider contacting Jessie to schedule your airport pickup. He and his team are very reliable and offer better rates often than uber/taxi. He can be reached (call or text) at 808-345-6383.

Remember Fairmont Orchid shuttle service and bikes. The shuttle will bring you to a long list of great places in the Mauna Lani resort area for free, including shopping, restaurants, beaches and more. And the bike is an easy way to get to the Shops at Mauna Lani, nearby beaches and snorkeling, and much more.

Hotel guests are encouraged to contact the Fairmont Orchid Guest Services team for any inquiries. This is a great group of people who are ready to help with any questions or needs that you have. This Top 10 Things To Do on the Island is offered by the concierge and they are happy to assist hotel guests with restaurant resers, activity recommendations, directions, etc.

Tennis parking at the Fairmont Orchid is free for you. To park close to tennis, enter the hotel resort and, as you see the Fairmont entrance signs, take the 2nd left (guest parking). As you approach/stop in front of the security 'arm' it will pop up for you. Go in and drive as far left as you can and park. Walk out the nearby exit and security 'arm', cross the street and take the sidewalk trail to the tennis shop. When you leave, drive to that near exit and the security arm will rise as you approach/stop in front of it. See image :)

Restaurants nearby - there are many! YELP offers this list of Top 10 places to dine, and some notes:
-
Some of us like Tommy Bahamas because it is close by (so easy) and food is pretty good and they have good, live music most evenings.
-
Napua is a really nice dinner. It's a beautiful setting, great food and a fun walk/bike (for the spirited) - OR an easy shuttle over. You need reservations generally - but if you walk up at 4:50pm or right before they open (and the line is usually very short) - they usually accommodate walk-ins with really nice seating too.
-
Browns Beach House is great for a breakfast grab (opens 6:30am) or lunch to go & picnic at the beach right there.
-
Canoe House is a really special experience and if you want to treat yourself to a fine-dining. Reservations are highly recommended - and there too you can walk up at early (happy) hour and most often get a seat inside.
-
Some of us love Hale Kai at Fairmont because it's right here and so close, the food is good (great burgers and the Buddha bowl is two thumbs up) - and nice place to watch the sunset.
-
Ha Bar has to be on the list because its just "down the street" (nice walk or easy shuttle), the food is good and they have live music and hula dancers at dinner hours.
-
And if your are really hungry for very good sushi, many recommend Sansei Waikoloa. It is an easy trip over (via uber or other) at Queens Market (great shopping), and the sushi is very good. They also have an early bird special on Sunday and Monday that is worth checking out.
-
And if you really just want dessert, we highly recommend The Market. A nice evening walk, you can enjoy the scenery over very elegent and tasty desserts and coffee/other. It's a special treat, for sure.
-
For shopping, dining and more, check out Queens Market - and especially if you are shopping for gifts, etc. Queens Market is a few miles away and its easy to spend a day there shopping, dining and chilling. The Kings Shops are right across the street and people love the shaved ice at the Original Big Island Shaved Ice Company.
-
The bikes at Fairmont are free to hotel guests and there are some great little bike treks you can take to explore the area. Bikes are available on a 1st come, 1st serve basis. Be sure to register with ALL (the rental company, easy link here) before you grab some wheels.
-
If you plan to snorkel, be sure to check out Beach Club Beach and stay far side (see map on bottom of this page). Recommend you grab a noodle to help you float because you wont want to leave after seeing a LOT of fish and may be some turtles and much more. If you plan to go often, you may bike or shuttle to nearby Snorkel Bobs, where you have a lot of good options for gear rental (and a weekly favorable rate $). Don't forget to ask for the card which helps you identify the fish by name!
-
Sandals, flip flops and lava rock / fossil rock are bad combinations. If you are going to walk on lava rock or fossil rock, please wear good shoes. You're ankles will appreciate it and we don't want to see anyone in a boot at the tennis camp please !
-
You can drink from the tap on Big Island. We will have filtered water dispensers at the tennis shop so that you can fill water bottles, but no need to run to Costco and buy a lot of plastic bottles and disposable water. Fun Fact: if you buy bottled water on Oahu, it’s very likely the exact same water you would find if you filled your bottle from the sink in your hotel. That’s because bottled water for sale on Oahu comes from the same aquifers as our tap water. See more HERE
